We’re inviting Melbourne to take a deep breath, join as one, and release an almighty chorus of kazoo. don’t need any musical ability or training. Simply stick a kazoo in your mouth, with the pointy end at the world, and send some do-do-dos down that tube.

### EUPHORIA READING ROOM

*Euphoria* is a film installation exploring the euphoric aspects of capitalism and 2000 years of greed. Filmmaker Julian Rosefeldt has curated a selection of books for further reading and unpacking capitalism, colonialism and the influential effects of unlimited economic growth in society. RISING is partnering with City of Melbourne libraries to make these books available to read in a pop-up reading room at Melbourne Town Hall. Stay tuned for more details.

### FILM SCREENINGS

RISING is offering FREE tickets* for high school students and creative workshop excursions. An immersive film installation by filmmaker Julian Rosefeldt (Manifesto, 2015) at Melbourne Town Hall exploring the euphoric aspects of capitalism and consumption.

### *Shadow Spirit*

*Shadow Spirit*, presented by Metro Trains Melbourne, illuminates the many connections First Peoples have to spirit worlds of country and expansive metaphysical layers of time and memory through immersive and dynamic art installations. Bring your students along for a captivating exhibition that traverses time and celestial worlds, while reflecting on the shadows of Australian history.

A RISING education resource aimed at Year 7+ students will provide deeper understanding on the exhibition. Coming soon.

“It’s 10,000 people, playing 10,000 kazoos and everyone’s invited. Simple. Powerful. Kazoo-tiful.”

*10,000 Kazoos* is a mass participation event for RISING 2023. Join the kazoo-nity, become a part of the largest kazoo orchestra in the southern hemisphere – maybe even the world!

# SCHOOL BOOKING STEP-BY-STEP

1. Organise your group | Get your estimated numbers together on a suitable date/time for your visit. It’s good to have a second or third preference in mind if you have a large group that we might not be able to accommodate for your first preference

2. Submit an enquiry form | Fill in the school booking form link below. Sessions that are less than three weeks away from the submission date will not be available to select on the form

3. Check your inbox | Once submitted, our team will process the enquiry into an order: we’ll get in touch if we need more info, and work out the best result for your group visit before confirming cost and payment

4. Complete your payment | We will reserve your seats up until payment due date (two weeks prior to the date of your session), while you finalise numbers in your group after the form has been submitted

PAYMENT DETAILS

- Payment must be received by RISING two weeks prior to your selected session
- Payments will be accepted via invoice or credit card
- Once we receive payment, your will receive an order confirmation. E-Tickets will be sent in late May

## NITTY GRITTY

- The booking enquiry form does not confirm your booking—it just gets the ball rolling for our team to find you a suitable session and confirm the final cost before processing payment RISING must receive payment 14 days prior to your chosen session. 
- If we do not receive payment, your booking enquiry will be cancelled and any seats on hold will be released
- There are no refunds if members of your group are no longer able to attend
- The prices listed on the form are subject to change. Our team will advise you of the final total once the order is confirmed
- Live availability of listed sessions is not reflected in the enquiry form. 
- Please check the calendar via the event's booking link for an idea of current availability.
- Our team will get in touch if your preferred session is not available and try to find a new date or time.
- If your group schedule changes, we may be able to offer an exchange into a different session of the same show. 
- This is subject to availability with an exchange fee applied for $3 per ticket
- Not all shows are available for school bookings—all viable sessions are listed in the school booking form

__Celebrate RISING 2023 in your shop windows and go into the running to win!__  

As a major cultural event supported by Visit Victoria and Creative Victoria, RISING aims to invigorate the city through winter and support the City of Melbourne’s night-time economy with unique and engaging programming. 

From 07—18 June 2023, RISING orbits Flinders Street Station and surrounding streets and carparks, and transforms St Paul’s Cathedral, Federation Square, Flinders Lane and Birrarung Marr. A break from business as usual, RISING's purpose is to reflect Melbourne’s identity and amplify its artists, businesses and creative industry.

## What is the Local Business Program

As part of RISING we're supporting and profiling small businesses that make up the fabric of the city by inviting them to participate in Melbourne’s newest major culture festival this winter.

Retail, restaurants, cafes, pubs, clubs, entertainment venues, tourist attractions, cultural institutions, hotels and accommodation providers, within the CBD to participate in the program through a simple application process. 

Successful applicants will be provided a RISING Local Business Program asset kit and ideas for theming their façade or shopfront throughout the festival period.  

In exchange, local business will be supported by RISING through promotion across our channels. Businesses will be sent a RISING digital asset kit to promote their involvement in the festival.

ACMI has two entrances: one on Flinders Street, and the other in Fed Square.

The Flinders Street entrance is easily accessible via a wheelchair ramp. This entrance is closed outside museum opening times. To access ACMI outside these hours, enter via the Fed Square Entrance.

The Fed Square entrance is located in the heart of Fed Square plaza, between Chocolate Buddha and Beer Deluxe. Please be aware that the Fed Square plaza is cobblestoned and may be difficult to navigate for visitors using mobility aids.

To get to the Fed Square entrance from the Flinders Street entrance, you can use the lifts near the end of The Atrium – to the left of Beer Deluxe – to get to the Fed Square plaza level.

LIFTS

A series of lifts (or elevators) offer access to all levels of ACMI.

- __Ground floor – Level 1 access only.__ The Ground floor lift is located between Tickets & Information desk and the entrance to The Story of the Moving Image exhibition.
- __Ground – Level 1 & 2 access.__ This Ground Floor lift is located behind the stairs opposite the bathrooms. You can access it by continuing down the corridor between Tickets & Information desk and the entrance to The Story of the Moving Image exhibition. This lift grants you access to levels 1 and 2.
- __Ground floor – Basement Gallery 4 access.__ A goods lift that allows access to the Underground Gallery 4 is located behind Gallery 2 and 4, via a corridor. Only in use when an exhibition is on view in Gallery 4.
- __Level 1 – Cinemas access.__ here are two lifts located on Level 1. As you enter from Fed Square, one is around the corner on your right, as you pass the Tickets & Information desk and approach the stairs. If you make a hard right towards Hero at ACMI and the Level 1 toilets, you will see the lift. This is the best lift option to reach the Cinemas level (Level 2).
- __Level 1 – Galleries access.__ As you enter from Fed Square, walk past the wall of screens and seating area in front of the wall of cabinets on your left, the lift is located opposite the seating area. This lift provides access to Ground floor, the Galleries level. 
- __Level 2 – Level 1 access.__ The Level 2 Lift services the cinemas. It goes down to Level 1, where you will find the restaurant and bar, Hero at ACMI; and the Labs Level. This lift also provides access to Ground floor, the Galleries level.

ACCESSIBLE BATHROOMS

Toilets are located on Ground floor and Level 1. ACMI has wheelchair accessible toilets on both floors.

Baby change facilities are available near the toilets at the Flinders St (Ground floor) and Fed Square (Level 1) entrances.

COMPANION CARDS

Companion Cards, registered in Victoria and interstate, provide the carers accompanying card holders with free access to ACMI programs.

If you need to borrow a wheelchair for use inside the Museum, present your ID at the Tickets & Information Desk (located at Ground floor and Level 1 respectively) and we’ll organise one for you free of charge.

GUIDE DOGS

Guide Dogs and registered assistance animals are welcome throughout ACMI. But only registered animals. No pets, please!

ALPHA60 Chapter House

Located on the northern bank of the Yarra River between Federation Square and Melbourne Park, Birrarung Marr features a range of native flora and sculpted terraces. It is also the location for the children's arts centre, ArtPlay, and provides space for many events held throughout the year.
In Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung culture, 'Birrarung' is the traditional name of the Yarra River; and 'marr' refers to the mist that sometimes settles over the Birrarung. The park name reflects the ‘river of mists'.

This area was historically used for railway lines and yards from 1856. In 1992, the Victorian Government undertook a process of reorganisation of land uses around the then proposed Federation Square. This led to the reclamation of the former railyard to allow access to the river and land for public open space purposes. 

Construction of the park began in 2000 and was a joint venture between the City of Melbourne and the Victorian Government. Birrarung Marr was opened in 2002. 

The park hosts a variety of native flora, sculpted terraces, pedestrian and bicycle paths and is used for numerous festivals and events throughout the year. 

The former rail use continues to be represented by the adaptation of the former Princes Bridge Lecture Room (a purpose-built railway training building constructed in 1916-17) into ArtPlay, a children’s art centre and gallery. 

At the east end of the park, the William Barak pedestrian bridge leads directly to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and the Tanderrum Bridge leads directly to the Melbourne Park tennis centre.

WALKING

Birrarung Marr is an approximately 7 minute walk (600m) from Flinders Street Station, via Princes Walk and Flinder Walk, and a 10 minute walk (850m) from the MCG. THE MAIN SQUARE  

The undulating surface of the Main Square is made up of sandstone cobblestones, with a marked access path. Swanston Street offers the best access to the Main Square, and lift access is available to and from The Atrium. The Big Screen is equipped with a hearing loop and there are accessible toilets located next to Time Out Café. The Main Stage has lift access for performers, and St Paul’s Court, Swanston Street Forecourt and The Amphitheatre also have wheelchair access.

There are accessible public toilets and baby-change facilities located in the Main Square, next to Time Out Cafe and in The Atrium, next to IceBar.

PHYSICAL ACCESS 

All levels of Hamer Hall are accessible via lifts and escalators.

Removable seats/spaces for wheelchair or scooter users are available on all levels of Hamer Hall, along with companion seating. To book, call the MSO Box Office on (03) 9929 9600. Other accessible seating options are also available, including seats situated on aisles, without stairs, close to entry points, or with moveable arm rests.

Walkers are not permitted to stay in the hall during performances, but can be used to access seats and then removed and minded by venue staff for the duration of the concert. Walkers can then be retrieved by staff upon request at interval and at the conclusion of the concert.

Complimentary loan wheelchairs can also be booked to assist with travel throughout the building, including to and from the Arts Centre Melbourne/NGV car park. Please call the Arts Centre Melbourne Contact Centre on 1300 182 183 for assistance with loaning a wheelchair.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Nearest accessible tram stop: The nearest tram stop is Stop 17 (Route 1), located directly outside the Centre on Sturt St. This is a platform tram stop providing level access to low floor trams, passenger shelter and protection from traffic. Melbourne Recital Centre is a short walk down Southbank Boulevard (approximately 200 metres). 

You can also take routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 or 72 and alight at Stop 16, outside the National Gallery of Victoria and walk to the Centre via Southbank Boulevard.

ACCESSIBLE ENTRANCE

The Comedy Theatre can provide a ramp into one of the front doors on Exhibition Street. A member of our security or front of house staff will be able to assist you on arrival at the theatre. At the doors facing on to Exhibition Street there is a small step, which as you move away from Lonsdale Street is reduced to a small lip. Doors are usually propped open during performances. The entrance opens directly into the foyer, which is small and can become quite congested.

ACCESSIBLE BATHROOMS

There are accessible toilets located on all foyer levels and backstage areas of the Centre. Please ask our venue staff for assistance in locating the one nearest to your seating or working location. 

EASY ACCESS SEATING AND WHEELCHAIR ACCESS

For the convenience of patrons who have restricted mobility but do not require the use of a wheelchair, Melbourne Recital Centre has identified locations within the auditorium where patrons do not need to use stairs to reach their seats. These seats are located in row U of the Stalls, row A of the Circle, and seats 11-15 of both upper wings. Accessible seating in the wings are also wider and have articulated, raising arm-rests.

Wheelchair accessible spaces are located in Stalls Row U and the Upper East Wing, all with Companion seating available. All seating and wheelchair spaces can be booked through all MRC sales channels, including through the MRC website.

LIFTS AND ESCALATORS 

Lift access is available to all foyer levels of the building and all backstage areas (except the Orchestra Pit). Escalator access is also available between Ground Level and foyer Level 1.

ASSISTANCE ANIMALS

Melbourne Recital Centre welcomes all visitors with assistance animals (such as guide dogs) certified by a registered authority. Please inform THE Ticketing Services team, when making your booking over the phone or in person or email boxoffice@melbournerecital.com.au in advance of your visit the Centre.

HEARING LOOP

Patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing may access our hearing loops in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall and Primrose Potter Salon.
